Amalgamated Property Group’s (APG) redevelopment of a large commercial building in the Canberra city centre into the sleek Manhattan on the Park residential precinct has seen it win the Property Development Award at the Australian Property Institute’s ACT Excellence Awards.
The API’s Property Development Award honours outstanding work on a commercial development of a single building or structure, or a group of buildings or structures, land development or infrastructure.
Manhattan on the Park is APG’s latest residential development in conjunction with Chase Building Group. It involved the demolition of an existing 14,000m2 commercial office building and then construction of a new 16 level residential tower of 330 apartments.
Located just one block from the retail and commercial heart of the CBD, but with the peaceful and beautiful Glebe Park and Lake Burley Griffin on their doorstep, residents have the best of both worlds.
The nomination of APG for this award called Manhattan on the Park “the finest in urban living, offering stylish modern interiors, European appliances, generous balcony and terrace areas, gym, swimming pool, outdoor BBQ areas and onsite parking”.
The design concept is centred on exploiting the northeast orientation of the site and providing a majority of homes with views across Glebe Park to Mount Ainslie. This was achieved by carving a central concave form out of the larger city block.
Manhattan on the Park is revitalising the Glebe Park Precinct by bringing retail and activity to the area.
